Collection: Timothy Lamb Solo: God, Savage and the Amazon

February 25- March 23, 2017

Timothy Lamb’s debut solo exhibition imagines a glimpse into a vibrant parallel universe where chaotic scenes of war and leisure play out a familiar and timeless existence. In settings of neither past nor future, figures fill the canvas engaged in savage civil wars, ritualism, and dangerous encounters with the untamed wild. Inspirations include a life-long obsession of dinosaurs, religious art, comics, and science-fiction, and the art of battles preserved in many ancient civilizations. The artist works with acrylic paint, using a Paasche airbrush and neons to bring a panoply of faux beings and civilizations to life. Contrasting the darker themes of his paintings is always a sliver of playfulness, bringing a sense of humor to otherwise chaotic and morose subjects. Unfortunately, there is a sense that the colorful beings of Lamb’s paintings seem tragically doomed to realize the same fate of violence and flaws of human behavior that we see in our world today.
