Ellen Surrey (California)
Show description from curator, Ellen Surrey: Having grown up visiting countless thrift stores, flea markets, and garage sales, I developed an admiration for objects from the mid-century era spanning the 1940s to the 1960s. There is a unique charm to items from this era, and with the 'Bric-A-Brac' show, we aim to capture and celebrate that appreciation.
The title of the show originates from a specific section in thrift stores—a treasure trove of diverse household items and decor that vary in aesthetic value. Our focus for this show is to celebrate the eccentrically charming mid-century treasures found in thrift stores, flea markets, or even tucked away in your grandma's attic. Let's celebrate the beauty and allure of these mid-century objects, showcasing their unique character and often-unrecognized contribution to design history.
