Kira Imai was born in Hyogo Prefecture and currently lives in Tokyo. She became interested in Lolita fashion which led her to show her solo work in solo exhibitions. Angelic Pretty, a Lolita fashion brand, hired her as an illustrator. Her illustrations can be seen in magazines, on dolls, novel work, bedding textiles, and various genres. Along with the Lolita fashion culture in Japan, Imai's work can be seen all over the world. Her illustrations of young girls and romantic textiles are favored by Lolita girls all over the world.
She participated in Osamu Dazai “Zyoseito(Schoolgirl)", the first in the popular "Otome no Bonshelf" series (Rittosha) - This is when modern illustrators add illustrations to masterpieces by great writers: Osamu Dazai + Kira Imai “Matu (Waiting)" was published in February 2023.
